We scrutinise and hand-pick every brand we partner with to ensure they meet our ingredient requirements, are ethically sourced, use sustainable packaging, are cruelty-free and of course have proven results. It is our mission to represent these brands that prioritise people and planet so our consumers know they are using the best that money can buy. Slow beauty is our mission and we want you to love what you buy, so then you buy only what you love. This is simple, transparent, circular beauty. We love hyperlocal founded, from locally made soaps, plantable cards and incredible sunscreens that are changing the way we shop and wear our products but we also stock global brands that are pioneering a movement of transparency. Whether you’re new to clean beauty, looking to add some products to your collection or just experience them in person, we love helping our customers on their clean journey.
Our Why
The Bare Theory was founded by Lauren Raphael, a Perth girl who’s lived and travelled all over the world. Her career began in aviation where she worked for Emirates Airlines. There was a strong focus on appearance and immaculate presentation, which sparked her love of beauty. Lauren began buying a multitude of products and after a few years, ended up with cupboards full of products and feeling a little overwhelmed.
As Lauren began a family, she found herself living in India, where she began to experiment with more natural and alternative products. Her story is rooted in motherhood, as when her daughter was a toddler, she suffered a chemical burn in her eye. This was a turning point for Lauren, and she decided she only wanted safe and natural products in her home.
Lauren sought out as much information as she could about toxins and after reading Low Tox Life by Alexx Stuart, she was converted. Staurt’s methodology talks about how doing something is enough even if it is just one thing - “I didn’t feel like I had to completely overhaul my household - I could start making small changes for the better. It was sustainable, easy to implement and made me feel like I was embarking on a new journey without having to change everything all at once.”
When Lauren returned to her hometown of Perth, she stumbled across Limon Shop and instantly had a connection with the owner Julianna. It was the store she’d been looking for that made shopping for clean beauty products easy. It was here Lauren purchased one of her most treasured beauty resources, Truth in Beauty by the founder of organic beauty brand Mukti. It changed her life.
When she heard the store was closing, she knew it was a sign for her to step into the clean beauty world and start The Bare Theory.
Here she’s fostering not just a store, but a community, built around the pillars of clean beauty and conscious living. In addition to the incredible range of natural and clean products, The Bare Theory is also home to a range of beauty and wellness providers including naturopathy, organic spray tanning, makeup application, perfume workshops and kinesiology.
Lauren takes a holistic approach to defining what “clean” really is, considering ingredients, ethical sourcing and recyclability. Her ethos is “from soil to skin, with clean in-between.”
